Steven Slater - DESC:
Steven has been Scouting since joining Beaver Scouts in 1990. As a leader, he started as an Assistant Scout Leader and then opened the Explorer Section at the 17th Medway. When the 12th & 17th merged he became an Assistant Explorer Scout Leader. He has now taken over the role of District Explorer Scout Commisioner (DESC) and is looking forward to helping provide a varied and exciting programme for all Explorers. Steven is also the Treasurer of Buckmore Park Scout Campsite as well as a cave leader at the site.
Outside of Scouting Steven is a keen cyclist, skier and gadet lover.
Hannah joined Explorers when she was 14 years old and felt so at home that she never left Scouts. She first became a Scout Leader in Swanley district, as well as, helping various county teams and helping at large events such as KIJ. Eventually, she found her home at Explorers, joining the kent team in 2017. Hannah moved in 2016 and so went in search of a new group to help closer to home. She is now an Assistant Explorer Scout Leader at 24th Borstal, having joined them in September 2017. Her interests include climbing, abseiling and walking, although whilst on Leap she has recently found a love for stand up paddle boarding! She is looking forward to working with the Explorer team to grow Medway Towns Explorers and offer new opportunities.
Martin joined the Scout Movement at the tender age of 5 in the BSA (Boy Scouts of America). He continued up to Scouts and, after making Rochester his new home, joined 24th Medway as an Explorer. A few years later, he sought out to share and rekindle an interest in core Scout skills with the next generation of Scouts. He joined 21st Medway as an Assistant Cub Scout Leader, and with the group's rapidly aging population within the Scout Section, there was enough interest in starting up the Trident ESU (Explorer Scout Unit), with Martin as it's Explorer Scout Leader. Interests include the Martial Arts, archery, cycling and power-kiting.
"Martin is the finest leader in Scouting I've ever met." ~His mother
"He's okay, and the kids seem to like him..." ~ anonymous parent
My bio. It's quite long as I've been around a while.
I started Scouting as a Cub at 1st Northfleet Scout Group a very long time ago. I progressed into the Scout section and was a member of the Scout Band. I left to become a member of a marching band. Fast forward to 2009. My daughter attended KIJ 2009 as a Guide. Whilst taking her there I had a look around and thought that everyone was having fun and decided that I wanted to have fun and decided to get involved in the movement. I've been Assistant Scout Leader since 2009 at the 50th Medway in Hoo and over the last few years I've taken on the roll as Explorer Scout Leader. I'm a member of the caving team at Buckmore Park and looking forward to helping shape the future of Medway Towns Explorers.
I've been involved with The Scouts since I joined the 5th Medway as a Beaver in 2006.
Since then, I've made my way through all of the sections to where I am now, the District Youth Commissioner for Explorers.
Through Scouting, I found I really enjoy outdoor activities such as climbing and mountaineering. I'm also passionate about the DofE awards and I am aiming to help make that a well achieved award in the District.
