Big Cardboard Sleep Out for Porchlight 2018

Kent Scouts Big Cardboard Sleep Out
Date and time:
Friday, 12 October 2018 - 12:00pm - Saturday, 13 October 2018 - 12:00pm

An exciting opportunity for positive action and a night under the stars.

Kent Scouts are working with Porchlight, a charity working with the homeless, to promote a sponsored cardboard Sleepout on the night of 12 October 2018.

Medway Towns District is supporting this programme and Buckmore Park will be open from 12.00hrs on Friday 12 October to 12.00hrs on Saturday 13 October. Groups can set up their cardboard cities on the activity field and backup wet weather tents on the B and C sites.

Full details and resources can be found at and at

Resources include:
• Sponsorship forms
• Sleepout information pack
• Ollie’s Story, a suitable cartoon presentation for Beaver and Cub Scouts
• Scripts for presenting the sleepout and homeless issues to all sections
• Template support letters
• Event flyer

Following the event donations and completed sponsorship forms, to allow for claiming gift aid, should be collected in by each Group and sent to Porchlight at the address shown on the sponsorship form

Group organisers should make sure their young people are dressed appropriately and have suitable sleeping bags, insulating mats and torches with spare batteries. Hot drinks and food are recommended these can be brought in by the young people or catering facilities brought in by Groups.

Fires may be lit on designated fire areas on B and C sites. No fires should be lit in the cardboard cities area or elsewhere.

Groups are responsible for bringing in their own cardboard boxes and removing them from site post sleepout. Groups are recommended to start discussions with local stores and warehouses to source a good supply of cardboard.

Please email David Wraight to book in your Group/section and if you have any further questions.
