Buckmore Park back in action!

Buckmore Park Scout Camp Site Logo

After too many years to think about (I was a much younger man then) The Board of Trustees of Buckmore Park Scout Centre (otherwise known as ‘The Park’) are delighted to announce that today, The Park became the property of The Medway Towns Scout District!

Take a moment to cheer and whoop and then please read on.

Buckmore Park Scout centre is ours, but there are still several legal stages to go through before all of the deals are done; which gives us a little time to finish formulating our business plan and this is where we need the help of everyone in the District.

We would like you to think about what you would want to see at The Park, and also of course your thoughts on to how your ideas could be achieved. Anything at all, let us know, if you don’t tell us don’t complain if it doesn’t happen.

There is one word of caution however and that is that whilst we own The Park, there are still things we can and cannot do, and The Trustees have a legal obligation to make sure that all activities that are carried out within it are carried out in compliance with the business plan. This means, for example, that it is not in order to cut down living trees for any reason, unless it is done as part of a management plan approved by The Trustees or their appointees. I am sure that you can think of other examples as well.

Notwithstanding that, it is terrific news and means that our Beating of the Bounds of the new Buckmore Park Scout Centre as part of the Jamboree on The Trail is a perfect opportunity to publicly celebrate.

We shall be sending out details re times etc a little nearer the day but we hope to see you there.

Mark Phillips (DC), Trevor Banks & Clive Buckle (Park Managers)

P.S.In the meantime all of your suggestions to either Mark Phillips or Trevor Banks please

Buckmore Park back in action!

myself ,Dad & my brothers would go to buckmore park when we was kids over 40 years ago, most of the time to the swimming pool but on a saturday Myself a few mates went rollerskating & we had very good times. In the last 5 years I have moved back to Medway & live on the Davis estate ,I work in maidstone so drive past the park & from the road what I can see it looks impressive. Today I took a ride to the park where I was confronted by a security guard & was told he was they so stop squatters & vandalism to the building. I I just wanted to say it seems as shame that Medway has this park & a lot of the kids have nowhere to go & do things. Just wondered what it would take to turn it into somewhere the kids in the area could go & have a bit of fun. I would be more than happy to volunteer my services (I'm quite handy and have recently remodelled a house on my own)if it could be turned around and made useful again.

Hi Sam

Nice to hear your stories but unfortunately times change and things get in the way. Also, Buckmore Park is not a Public Park and is currently undergoing renovations as appropriate and able by Medway Towns and Kent County Scouts. So even though it is not open to the public as such it is still used by many young people in the District, County and even country!

Buckmore Park back in action!

Hi Sam,

If you're interested in helping out at Buckmore Park there are two email addresses on their opportunities page:
servicecrew@buckmorepark.org.uk
parkmanager@buckmorepark.org.uk

If you've recently returned to Medway and are interested in helping out with a Scout Group, then there's one very near you on the Davis Estate who'd love to hear from you! Reply here to be put in touch, or use the contact us link to talk to the District Commissioner.

Regards,
Sverre :-)
